Rumtek Monastey

Rumtek Monastery also called Dharma Chakra centre is located near cthe capital of Gangtok. It is the seat in exile of the Gyalwang Karmapa of the Karma Kagyu sect of Buddhism. Is was inaugurated in 1966 by the 16th Karmapa and is currently the largest monastery in sikkim. The architectural wonder has been constructed in accordance to the traditional design of Tibetan monasteries Adorned by Silk painting,murals and statues,an intricately decorated prayer hall is available on the ground floor of thismain nonastrey building.

May-June & September-November are the most perfect time to visit this monastery as it marks the beginning of Tibetan New year,but one can visit the monastery anytime on their visit to Sikkim.
